The proton-proton Large Hadron Collider at CERN will begin the exploration of the physics at the TeV scale and we expect a rich harvest of discoveries.  In many cases, the meaning of these new phenomena will be unclear and a more precise investigation will be needed to understand their context and to extrapolate them to even higher mass scales.  The proposed electron-positron International Linear Collider will provide this more precise view of the new physics, and enable discoveries beyond those at the LHC.  I will outline the physics case for the ILC and LHC, describe some of the issues for experiments, and give an overview of the ILC accelerator and the world-wide organization of the effort.
