The Muon Collaboration has been pursuing an R&D program designed to produce muon beams suitable for storage rings.  These rings can eventually be sources for highly directed intense neutrino beams or, in the case of counter-circulating muon beams, result in ultra-high energy heavy lepton collisions.  An important bi-product of this R&D will be the generation of intense muons beams for other types of physics research.  The nature of this R&D program will be described.
