Text Box: Marco Verzocchi of the D0 experiment, physics support group, deserves some ES&H kudos. Marco noticed a loose handrail at the D0 portakamps. He didn’t just walk on by dismissing the hazard. Marco made up a sign, laminated it to stand up to the weather and posted the sign at the loose railing. Marco then notified Pete Simon, D0 building manager. The problem was noticed at 7pm and remedied the following day by 9am. This is an example of extra effort to report a hazard and actively notify others. Don’t walk by a hazard. Just because you noticed it, does not mean the next person will. Stop and remedy the hazard or take steps to notify others and local area building management.
