Detector Support Center

Team Lead: Karen Kephart

The Detector Support Center provides technical and mechanical support to experimenters involved in detector construction and repair.  Fundamentally, the group is comprised of technicians with a broad base in construction techniques and the ability to work adaptively and quickly with others on planning, construction, assembly, testing and repairs of a multitude of detectors used by High Energy Physics.  Traditional sub-group specialties include wire chamber construction; vacuum deposition and thin film coatings; and specialty plastics polishing and scintillation counter construction.  In the recent past, the organization has provided support to a large variety of optical  fiber detectors.  Presently, the organization also contributes personnel and expertise to the Silicon Detector Technical Center as well as the D0 Fiber Tracker.

The technical staff are somewhat unique in that they are accustomed to interacting directly with experimenters in many aspects of detector development and maintenance.  Within the constraints established by the Laboratory as a whole and PPD in particular, the Detector Support Center strives to provide assistance to all experimenters who have a need for skilled technical support in the field of detector construction.
