Technical Centers Microdetector Assembly Team Lead, Bert Gonzalez |
Our group is micro-detector assembly that has six mechanical technicians ranging
from technician I to senior technician and a technical supervisor.
Our agendas are accomplished utilizing CMM’s with optical setups with magnification levels over 1000 times in order
to achieve micron accuracy during assembly of the components. Our members have excellent manual dexterity and
assembly comprehension to aid us in our goals.
Our team members have interfaced with designers, engineers and physicists from CDF,DO,CMS and DES addressing
the R&D phase, reviewing, modifying (when necessary) and implementing all fixturing for component sub-assemblies to
barrel assemblies. Once all R&D procedures are proven and finalized our team is responsible for performing the production
and final assembly of these detectors. All of the Silicon detectors in CDF and DO collider experiments have been assembled
by our team members. We were also responsible for assembling 2500 modules and 350 rods for CMS TOB and shipping
these to CERN.
Currently our group has moved on to the next generation of detectors which is Pixels. We have addressed the R&D phase and
moved into the production phase on CMS FPixel experiment. We have completed 6 out 8 of the Half Disks and 3 out of 4 half
cylinders structures. These have been tested, packaged and shipped to CERN.
We will assist/build components and test setup for DES/Decam experiment which is scheduled to move into production in the
coming year.
We have begun R&D agendas for ILC Pixel detectors and PMT testing setups.
