Responsibilities

The CATV Group is responsible for thirteen TV systems. These systems are used by PPD, Beams Division, FESS, and ES&H.

The Beams Division uses all thirteen systems in their area for machine operations to view video, data, and safety information. The Main Control Room uses our system to send data and information to experiments site wide. PPD uses our system to receive information from the Main Control Room to view video, data, and ES&H information. We install and maintain all equipment used in these systems

We also provide the Laboratory with an emergency warning system called SAM that is operated on our CATV systems. We have installed and maintained the IIT College course systems for graduate and undergraduate courses. We setup new installations as needed for all users everywhere on site. We maintain a 50-channel video system for the D/zero and CDF experiments, and provide security video for Argonne Credit Union and the Com Center. The CATV Group has installed four videos at each of the gate entrances onto the Laboratory’s site.

We have installed audio/video systems in all of the Wilson Hall conference rooms for Media Services to record meetings and/or broadcasts on the CATV system. We maintain a CATV video system in the Beams Division’s Main Control Room, Main Injector Control Room, NUMI Control Room, PBAR Control Room, D0 Control Room, and CDF Control Room. Each control room has one or more CATV systems with 53MHz signals that are used by the users to calibrate equipment in their areas.

We also provide the Main Control Room with a site wide video keytree system for safety. We maintain miles of underground cable in the tunnel and have a very large inventory of amplifiers, couplers, and power supplies that are used to operate the entire systems site wide. The CATV Group performs most of the equipment repairs onsite.
