The responsibility of the Machine Development and Maintenance Department of the Particle Physics Division is to design, and deliver special machines to various experimenters.  This group is a self-contained unit that has its own designer, drafter, electronics, programming and staff machine shop.  The group is also involved as consultants on many projects.

Some of the state of the art machine built by the group consist of plastic, scintillator, and fiber finishing machines.  The group was involved with work on the cartridge support system used at the Apache Point Observatory.
