Fermi activities

Congratulations to the Particle Physics Division!  We have worked over 1,000,000 hours without a DART case!   We have 495 people in our division, so that means we’ve worked well over a year without any injuries resulting in days away from work or restricted work time.   Well done!

These numbers are very impressive to the DOE.  However, the more important thing is that we are able to keep up with our lives without the interruption of an occupational injury.  So you can continue to do your work in addition to all your usual non-work activities, like:  gardening, playing with your kids or grandkids, swimming, cycling, xbox-ing, fixing cars, traveling, and many many others!

Way to go PPD!

Housekeeping Days

Two new lessons learned were posted to the ES&H Section website.

1. Poor Work Practice Results in Minor Wrist Injury

2. Inattention While Using Exacto Knife Results in Minor Laceration

Lessons Learned

We had another successful housekeeping day on July 30.  Many groups chose to participate including the Electrical Engineering Department.  The housekeeping days are a great opportunity to go through your “stuff” to get rid of some and organize the rest.  We’ve heard from many who were surprised by the amount of stuff they could throw away, and are happy with their clean and uncluttered work space.

There is one more scheduled housekeeping day this year, October 1.  Mark your calendars if you haven’t participated in one yet!

Materials that are no longer needed can be waste, sent to surplus, or recycled.  Talk to the Waste Generator in your group or the ES&H Department for help characterizing waste.

Recycling and scrap metal bins can be delivered to your area for big clean up projects.
